Vehicles in German City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Police stated they were notified by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police say preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.

"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

City officials announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for information.

A high-ranking political figure said the incident made him without words and had to be resolved promptly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
